Apprenticeship at Brose: the start for a long-term career path

Coburg/Wuerzburg, 11-10-2023

An internship as a technical product designer encouraged Sophia Escher in her decision to learn a technical profession in our family-owned company. At the age of 16, she started her apprenticeship as a tool mechanic in stamping and forming technology at Brose. In this interview, the production planner talks about her experiences and what path she would like to take at Brose.

Ms. Escher, what were the highlights of your apprenticeship at Brose? What challenges did you face?

Working together in the Brose Junior Company, a special training program in which we worked on real orders for other departments, bonded us apprentices into a strong team. In general, the team spirit was something I like to look back on. Especially during the exam preparation phases, we always spurred each other on to achieve the best result together. In my apprenticeship, I was a girl among many boys. Asserting myself in this "man's world" was often challenging, but it was also good training for my following professional life.

Sophia Escher currently works as a production planner in seat assembly in the “Replacement and Small Series” department at the Coburg production site.

You are still at Brose. What are the reasons?

I still really enjoy working at Brose. Our family-owned company offers me a wide range of opportunities to take on new challenges and develop professionally and personally. This is also supported by various internal training courses.

What would you still like to achieve at Brose?

I am currently concentrating on my work as a production planner. I have been in this position since March of this year and would like to gain as much experience as possible in the production environment. I am sure that Brose will be able to show me many more prospects, which I will take up when the time is right.

Seizing new opportunities through an apprenticeship

Sven Klein from the Würzburg plant proves that an apprenticeship doesn't just pay off at a young age. After twelve years working in the canteen in Würzburg, he took a bold step and started his training as a machine and equipment operator. After successfully completing his training this year, he was honored by the Würzburg-Schweinfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce as Bavaria's best apprentice in this profession. He also tells us about his future plans.

Mr. Klein, what challenges do you remember during your apprenticeship and what were the highlights?

I have to admit that I did not take this step lightly. Going back to school at the age of 40, learning how to study all over again, balancing family, school and training: it was a big challenge. I was very happy about the flexibility Brose offered me and the good relationship with my colleagues and trainers. The highlights of the three years were definitely the seminars and training trips as well as the team-building activities.

You are still working for Brose after your apprenticeship. Is there a particular reason for this?

Yes, I am still at Brose and was taken on in my favorite department on the winding line for window regulator motors here in Würzburg, which I liked best from the very beginning. My father and grandfather already worked here and played a major role in making me feel connected to the company.

What are your career goals?

I would first like to gain a few years of practical experience in my department, but I can well imagine continuing my education. I am interested in a foreman qualification, for example.
